Mayo on Ice

  • Mayo On Ice is set to return to the Mall in Castlebar this Christmas in a €300,000 investment.

The event attracted over 25,000 customers last year and brought huge business to the town.

Mayo On Ice will be officially launched on Friday November 30th and run up until January 4th.

John Mulroy of the Castlebar Chamber of Commerce says plans are in place to ensure this year’s event surpasses the success of last year and that it will be an even more enjoyable experience for visitors.

  • Work has started on the Mall in Castlebar in constructing the ice-skating rink, which will be one of the highlights of the festive season in the county town.

Mayo on Ice opens on Friday week 30th November, and will run for 5 weeks until 4th January, while the Christmas Lights in Castlebar will also be switched on on the evening of Friday 30th.

This is the second successive year that the ice rink is located on The Mall, and attracted over 25,000 people to the county town last year.

It's a joint initiative by Castlebar Chamber of Commerce, Mayo Co Co and the local business sector, and will include additional markets this year, as well as a new attraction - Star Flyer which at 40 ft high will dominate the town's skyline over the festive season.

Promoter Brian McGee of Carousel Ireland Ltd based in Killarney is now on site where work has begun in assembling the marquee for the ice-skating rink.
