• The family of a Ballina man, who died in Malawi last April, are calling for answers, after it emerged that he died from poisoning - not from malaria which was the initial verdict.

71-year old Terry Martin Collins, known as Ted, from Bunree Road, Ballina was in the city of Zomba in Malawi in south east Africa when he died, and his remains were returned home for burial in Ballina.

While the initial verdict was that he died of malaria, his family requested an autopsy be carried out, and the results showed that he died from acute poisoning.

The Irish Mirror reports that a woman has been arrested by police investigating Mr Collins' death.

His grand-daughter Marie Cleary has appealed to Irish embassy authorities to help her family get justice for Ted.

She described him as "a loving, caring man who didn’t deserve to die like he did" and says he deserves justice.
