  • The N5 at Carrabawn, Swinford has re-opened to traffic in the past few minutes (1pm) following a fatal collision yesterday afternoon.

    A car and lorry collided on the N5, near the Applegreen store, just before 4pm.

    The 61-year-old man driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

    He has been named locally as Frank Walsh , Treeneure, Kiltimagh.

    A passenger in the car, a man in his twenties, was taken by ambulance from the scene to Mayo University Hospital. His injuries are described as not life threatening.

    Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the collision.

  • Gardai are advising that a lorry has turned over on the Ballylahan to Bohola road, at the Bohola Graveyard, just off the N5.
    Fog is reported in the area,
    The emergency services are at the scene.
    Traffic is getting by, but gardai are advising motorists to slow down on approach.

  • Motorists are advised that the old Glenisland to Castlebar road is closed to traffic at present, close to Glenisland, as a lorry is blocking the road. It turned over on the road, earlier this morning.

    It is likely to take some time to have the lorry removed.

  • The N5 is down to one lane between Bohola and Swinford this morning after a truck overturned.

    Gardai say the traffic restriction will remain in place for some time, until the lorry can be cleared.

    Motorists are advised to take due caution in the area, the lorry overturned about halfway between Swinford and Bohola.
