  • Loam Restaurant in Galway has been named Best Restaurant, at the 2019 Irish Restaurant Awards.

    The awards were announced last night at a gala dinner in Dublin, with Loam Restaurant winning the national award.

    This is the 11th year of the Irish Restaurant Awards, which attracted over 90,000 nominations from the public, and are hosted by the Restaurants Association of Ireland.

    A number of Mayo restaurants were among the regional winners last night. 

    The Irish Restaurant Awards are considered the most coveted awards in the industry each year, and are now in their 11th year.

    Barry Ralph of the House of Plates in Castlebar was named Best Chef in Connacht, while Bar One in Castlebar was named Best Gastro Pub in the province.

    Eva Ivanova of Sage Restaurant in Westport won the regional award for Best Restaurant Manager, and An Port Mór in Westport won the Connacht award for Best Emerging Irish Cuisine.

    VJ Doherty's in Ballina was named Pub of the Year in Connacht.

    The Connacht award for Best Hotel Restaurant went to the West Restaurant at the Twelve Hotel in Barna, Galway while Park House Hotel in Galway city won the Best Customer Service award.

    Le Petit Pois - a French restaurant in Galway - won the Connacht award for Best Wine Experience, while the award for Best Café in Connacht went to the Connemara Greenway Cafe & restaurant in Oughterard.

    There was one Co Roscommon winner last night - Drumanilra Farm Kitchen in Boyle took the regional award in the category entitled  Best Free From

    In Sligo, Shells Seaside Bakery and Café in Strandhill won the regional award for Best Kids Size Me menu, while the regional award for Best Newcomer went to Passione by the Slico in Sligo, and Hooked in Sligo won the award for Best Casual Dining.

    The Irish Restaurant Awards recognise achievement and excellence in the restaurant and hospitality industry throughout the 32 counties of Ireland.
