  • The Government has been criticised for failing to include any upgrade of the N84 Galway to Headford road in the new National Development Plan, launched in Sligo last Friday.

Traffic in the area was brought to a standstill this morning following a single vehicle collision on the Headford Road, where a car overturned at about 8am.

Emergency services were forced to close the road to deal with the situation.

This stretch of road is used by over 13,000 vehicles per day and is operating at 125% capacity at present, according to Galway Independent Councillor James Charity.

Councillor Charity says it’s a shame that this vital road in north Galway is being forgotten about, while this morning’s collision again highlights the need for an upgrade of the N84…..
