  • A drug and alcohol free, teen music festival is returning to Mayo this weekend for its tenth anniversary.

    Band on the Strand takes place at Lacken Strand.

    2,000 young people from all over Ireland will attend the teen beach event.

     

  • Jamesie Maughan of Castlebar Foroige club was presented with the award for ESB Best Steam Project at the 2019 ESB Creative Tech Fest, which took place in the Convention Centre Dublin on Wednesday.

    The young Castlebar man’s 'Steam Caravan' work earned him the award which was presented by Marguerite Sayers, Executive Director ESB and President of Engineers Ireland.

    Over 500 young people, aged between 10 and 18, from 50 youth groups across Ireland, attended the bilingual event which celebrates the innovation, creativity and collaboration of young people who participate in TechSpace hubs in local organisations and schools across Ireland.

    The awards, hosted by Jess Kelly of Tech Talk on Newstalk, honoured winners in the areas of Creative Computer Science, Digital Creativity and STEAM.

  • The newly elected Reference Panel for Foróige met for the first time last week in Gormanston Park, Co. Meath.

    The Reference Panel is a group of 64 Foróige young people who get together to make recommendations to its National Council and bring about change, while representing over 50,000 young people involved in Foróige nationally.

    At the Reference Panel the young people on the National Council were elected. 16 young people and 45 adults will sit on this Council for 2018, including Karina Tropman from BBBS Ballinrobe Foróige and Tommie Loftus from Knockmore Foroige Club.

  • A Mayo teenager has qualified  for the finals in the Aldi Foróige National Junior Baking Competition, taking one of the top two places in the Regional finals.

    Jessalyn Jennings, aged 13 from Brickens Foróige club in County Mayo impressed with her chocolate fudge cake in Saturday's competition held in Moate Community Secondary School.

    She will now compete in the National finals, which will be held in the Aldi tent at this year's National Ploughing Championships.

    This year Aldi has tasked the young bakers with creating 'the perfect chocolate fudge cake', with the victorious young baker's creation being put on-sale nationwide across Aldi stores next year, alongside a €1,000 cash prize.

    Foróige CEO, Sean Campbell, said "This competition provides a fantastic opportunity for young people who want to explore the world of food production, baking and manufacturing."
