Fitzgibbon Cup

  • Next year's Sigerson Cup is set for a January finish.

It's proposed that the third-level football competition will start on Jan. 11th on a straight knock-out format with the final on Wed, Jan 29th.

The final of hurling's Fitzgibbon Cup will be held on Wed, Feb 12th.

It is hoped that bringing both competitions forward will help to ease the pressure on fixtures.

Mary-I will face 38-time champions UCC in the final on Saturday-week.

  • There will be no Fitzgibbon or Sigerson Cups in 2021.

The COVID 19 pandemic means there will be no third level championships staged in the remainder of the academic year.

The committee had been hopeful of staging a comprehensive programme of games, including the Sigerson and Fitzgibbon Cups, but given the current landscape in the country and the public health difficulties, this will not be possible.
