  • Two kilos of cannabis herb destined for Galway have been seized by Revenue officers at Shannon Airport.

    The drugs, worth in the region of 44 thousand euro, were found in four different packages in a freight delivery which came from Milan in Italy.

    Officials say the drugs were destined for an address in Galway, and investigations are continuing into the find.

     

  • Gardai in Athlone have seized cocaine worth in the region of €700,000 in a planned search.

    At about 7am this morning, Gardai from the Crime & Drugs Unit based in Athlone conducted a search of a house in the Clonown area of the town, where cocaine with an estimated street value of €700,000 was seized.

    A man and woman in their 20s were arrested and being detained under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act at Athlone Garda Station.

    The scene of the drugs seizure is being preserved for technical examination.

     

  • Gardai in Westport are investigating the seizure of a significant amount of cannabis last weekend.

    It's understood the drugs, worth in the region of €20,000, were found in a wooded area near The Point.

    Members of the Westport Drugs Unit were involved in the seizure, and Midwest News understands one person is helping Gardai with their enquiries.

     

  • Drugs and a significant amount of cash were seized by Gardai in the Castlebar area over the Bank Holiday weekend.

    Gardai confirmed to Midwest News today that the drugs find was made after a car was stopped in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Islandeady area.

    The street value of the drugs believed to be cocaine and cannabis herb is in the region of €2,000.

    In a follow up search at a house in Castlebar further drugs were discovered.

    Also a sum of money – in the region of €4,000 – was confiscated.

    A man was arrested and held at Castlebar Garda Station for questioning.

    He was released around 6 p.m on Saturday evening.

    A file has been sent for the DPP.

  • Cannabis and cocaine with an estimated street value of €320,000 was seized in Co Galway yesterday.

    Gardai from the Divisional Drugs Unit along with local Gardai in Loughrea searched a house in East Galway yesterday morning, and recovered the drugs along with a firearm.

    Two men, in their mid-20's and 40's - were arrested at the scene and taken to Galway Garda Station for questioning under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.

     

  • Five people were arrested and more arrests are anticipated as an estimated €333,000 worth of drugs were seized by gardai yesterday in the Ballina area, according to Garda Chief Superintendent for Mayo, Tony Healy.

    Members of the Mayo Divisional Drugs Taskforce, the Armed Support Unit, the Garda Dog Unit, and Gardaí attached to Ballina Garda Station searched a total of eight properties in the Ballina area yesterday.

    The coordinated search operation began at 9am yesterday morning and concluded at 10pm last night.

    During the search, a cannabis growhouse containing suspected cannabis plants valued at approximately €265,000 was discovered at a house in Attymass, Ballina.

    A man in his 30s was arrested in connection with this seizure and is due to appear in Castlebar District Court today.

    During the search of a house in Ballina town Gardaí seized €30,000 worth of cannabis herb in a garden shed.

    A further search was conducted at a house in Ballina where €20,000 worth of suspected cannabis herb, €7,000 worth of suspected cocaine, and a quantity of suspected steroid tablets were seized.

    Also at this property Gardaí recovered a small quantity of ammunition.

    Arising from a separate search at a house in Ballina town €11,000 worth of cocaine has been seized.

    Chief Superintendent Healy told Midwest News today that investigations are ongoing and thanked the community for their assistance in this significant drugs seizure.

  • Gardai in Galway have seized a substantial amount of cash and cocaine in Galway city.

    Last night, at about 7.40pm, Gardai from the Divisional Drugs Unit in Galway stopped and searched a car on the M6 motorway near Loughrea where over €17,000 cash was seized.

    In a follow-up operation, Gardai uncovered what's believed to be a cocaine processing laboratory at an address in Galway city, and seized cocaine with an estimated value of €50,000.

    At this address, Gardai also seized a cocaine press, mixing agent, vacuum packer and industrial gas masks = believed to have been used in the manufacture of cocaine for sale or supply.

    In a further search, Gardai seized €161,000 in cash at a separate premises in Galway City.

    One man in his 20's was arrested following the detection on the M6, while a second man in his 30's was arrested at a property in Galway City.

    Both men are being detained at Galway Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act.

     

     

     

  • Gardaí have arrested three people and seized cannabis and cannabis plants at a house at Cloonloo, Co.Sligo.

    Gardaí searched a house at Cloonloo at about noon yesterday. During the course of the search they discovered a cannabis cultivation operation containing 250 plants and well as processed cannabis herb. The drugs, subject to analysis, have a street value of in excess of €200,000.

    Three people were arrested at the scene; a man and a woman in their 30s and a man in his late 20s. They are being detained at Ballymote Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

  • Gardai are investigating a drugs seizure in Roscommon Town last Friday afternoon.

     Following a search of a house on Racecourse Road in Roscommon at about 4pm, Gardai recovered a quantity of cannabis and MDMA.

     A youth in his late teens was arrested and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

    Gardai have confirmed to Midwest News that their investigation is ongoing.

     

     

     

     

     

     

  • Gardai seized cannabis with an estimated value of €2,200 during a search operation at a premises in Castlerea yesterday.

    Gardai have confirmed to Midwest News that, during the course of the search, suspected cannabis along with a sum of cash and drug paraphernalia were seized.

    A man in his 60's was arrested and charged in relation to the matter, and is due before Castlerea District Court next month.

     

  • A man has been arrested after a drugs seizure in Co Sligo.

     

    Gardaí seized 4 kilos of cannabis herb, over 4,000 xanax tablets, and a quantity of cocaine, with a total estimated street value of 110,000 euro.

     

    The discovery was made after Gardaí searched a house in Calry last night.

     

    A 30 year old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station where he's being detained under the Drug Trafficking Act.

     

     

     

  • A 37 year old man is due to appear in court this morning charged in connection with a firearm and drug seizure in county Sligo.

    Gardai discovered a gun in the boot of a car on Tuesday and in a follow up operation found cannabis at a house in Ballymote.

    He's due to appear before a sitting of Ballaghadereen District Court this morning charged in connection with the investigation.

  • A 27 year old man is to appear before a sitting of Derrynea District Court, County Galway at 10.30 this morning in connection with a €50,000 drug seizure in Galway City on Sunday last.

    A second man in his 30s, who was also arrested in connection with the matter, has been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

    Gardaí in Galway seized approximately €178,500 worth of cash, €50,000 worth of cocaine (subject to analysis) and a number of drug manufacturing components as part of an intelligence led operation into the sale and supply of drugs in the Galway Garda Division.
     
    On Sunday evening last gardaí from the Divisional Drugs Unit in Galway stopped and searched a car on the M6 Motorway in the vicinity of Loughrea where more than €17,000 worth of cash was seized.
     
    As part of a follow-up search Gardaí uncovered what is believed to be a cocaine processing laboratory and seized cocaine with an estimated value of €50,000 at an address in Galway City.
     
    At this address, Gardaí seized a quantity of mixing agent, a cocaine press, vacuum packer, industrial gas masks, and a cash counting machine, which are believed to have been used in the manufacture of cocaine for sale or supply.
     
    In a further follow up search Gardaí seized €161,000 in cash at a separate premises in Galway City.
     
    One man in his 20s was arrested following the detection on the M6, while a second man in his 30s was arrested at a property in Galway City.
      
    The seizures were part of an intelligence led operation and were detected by the Galway Divisional Drugs Unit with the assistance of the Western Regional Armed Support Unit.

     

  • A man is due in court later this week charged in connection with the discovery of €9,000 worth of cocaine at a Garda checkpoint in Co Galway over the weekend.

    As part of Operation Fanacht, to ensure people are abiding by the Covid-19 restrictions, Gardai stopped a car near Ballinasloe on Sunday.

    Gardai found cocaine worth in the region of €9,000 and arrested a man in his early 20's.

    He was later charged and is due before Ballinasloe District Court later this week.

                                

     

  • A man who was arrested in connection with a €60,000 drugs seizure in Sligo Town on Tuesday has been released from custody.

    Gardai arrested the man in his early 50's following the seizure of approximately €60,000 worth of suspected cannabis herb during a planned search of a house at Market Yard in Sligo.

    The man was arrested at the scene and was questioned at Ballymote Garda Station.

    Gardai said last night that the suspect has since been released from custody and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

    Investigations are ongoing.

     

  • One person was arrested earlier today, following a drugs seizure in Ballina.

    The divisional drugs unit, assisted by local Gardai, carried out a planned search of a house in St Patrick’s Estate and seized a significant quantity of suspected cocaine.

    One man was arrested and is being detained at Ballina Garda Station.

    Today’s seizure was part of Operation Thor, which is ongoing in the area.

  • The three men arrested in relation to the drug seizure at the two houses in the townland of Killasser, Swinford on Saturday evening last are due to appear before a sitting of Galway District Court this morning, at 10.30am charged in connection with the seizure.  

    Two houses were searched following surveillance by the Divisional Drugs Unit. 

    Cannabis plants at different stages of growth were discovered.

    The men are aged 44, 27 and 23 years old.

  • Three people are due in court this morning, following a weekend drugs seizure in Co Sligo.

    Gardai searched a house in Cloonloo at about noon on Saturday and discovered a cannabis cultivation operation, seizing cannabis plants and cannabis herb with an estimated street value of over €200,000.

    A man and woman in their 30's and a man in his late 20's were arrested at the scene and are being detained at Ballymote Garda Station under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act.

    The three are due to appear before Donegal District Court this morning

     

  • Two people are still in Garda custody this morning, after 170,000 euro worth of drugs was seized in Roscommon town yesterday.

    Searches were conducted at a number of houses in Roscommon under warrant, and Gardaí found cannabis and cocaine with an estimated street value of over €170,000 and a large sum of cash.

    A 20-year-old man and 31-year-old woman were arrested at two separate houses, and are both being detained at Roscommon Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
