Donie Smith

  • Roscommon's Donie Smith has been hit with a proposed one match ban over an incident in last Saturday's Allianz League Division 1 game between Mayo and Roscommon according to the Irish Daily Star.

Smith's hand appeared to have made contact with Keith Higgins' eye area.

It is unclear if Roscommon will accept the ban - which would rule Smith out of Roscommon's clash with Monaghan on Sunday.

The option of a longer ban was open to the disciplinary body but Smith has been hit with a Category Three offence of behaving in any way which is dangerous to an opponent, which carries a minimum one-match ban.

  • Roscommon’s Donie Smith is set to find out today if he will face disciplinary action following an incident involving Mayo’s Keith Higgins during Saturday night’s opening league encounter in Castlebar.

Smith’s hand appeared to make contact with Higgins’ eye area, although it is understood Roscommon contend there was no intent, and the forward didn’t touch the eye or lower his hand to interfere with the eye area.

The Irish Daily Star say the GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee are set to review footage of the incident today.

If GAA chiefs decide Smith has a case to answer, the charge is likely to be a Category Three offence of behaving in any way which is dangerous to an opponent which carries a minimum one-match ban.
