• The Taoiseach has defended his view that doctors and nurses shouldn't be allowed to take leave over Christmas.

    Leo Varadkar says it's the busiest time of the year for the health service and staff should be working 'full whack'.

    It's led to criticism from doctors who say the problem is a lack of staff not that current staff are not working hard enough.

    Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin asked the Taoiseach yesterday where the Winter Plan for the HSE was, and that sparked off the controversy.
