Court appearance

  • A man in his 70's is to appear in court in Sligo this morning charged in connection with an historical sexual abuse case.

    He is to be charged in relation to allegations of indecent assault after an investigation launched in March of last year.

    The charges relate to incidents which took place between 1978 and 1986 respectively.

    The man is due before Sligo District Court this morning.

     

  • A man is due in court this morning in relation to a drug seizure in Co Galway earlier this month.

    Heroin with an estimated street value of 140-thousand euro was seized after a car was searched in Loughrea on January 3rd.

    A 41 year old man was arrested at the scene - he was re-arrested yesterday and charged in relation to the seizure.

    He's due to appear before Tuam District Court this morning.

     

  • A man is due in court this evening charged in connection with the death of a woman following an incident on a farm in Co Galway last year.

    On the afternoon of the 27th April 2018, a woman in her mid-70's died after being struck by an agricultural vehicle on a farm on the outskirts of Portumna.

    Gardai investigating the circumstances of her death have today charged a man in his 50's in connection with the incident.

    He's due to appear before a special sitting of the District Court in Loughrea this evening.

     

  • Two men are due to appear in court this evening charged in connection with a robbery in Sligo on Thursday.

    At around midday on Thursday, two men armed with a knife and hammer entered a business at Deepwater Quay in Sligo.

    They threatened staff and demanded money. They left with a sum of money and no one was injured.

    Garda investigating the robbery conducted searches and arrested a 19 year old man and a 24 year old man in the Sligo area on Thursday afternoon. They were detained under the provisions of Section 4 of The Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Ballymote Garda Station.

    A car and items connected with the robbery were also seized for examination.

    Both men are scheduled to appear before a special sitting of Sligo District Court at 7.30pm this evening charged in connection with the robbery.

     

  • A woman was arrested and charged last evening following a public order incident in Sligo.

    Gardai say they received reports of a group of people gathered and drinking at Newfoot Bridge in Riverside, Sligo Town at about 3.15 yesterday afternoon.

    A woman in her 30's refused to give her details to Gardai and then allegedly coughed on a member of the Gardai, implying that she had coronavirus.

    The woman was arrested for public order offences and was later charged.

    She was subsequently brought before a special sitting of Carrick on Shannon District Court last night.

    Following this incident, Gardai are again reminding the public of the need to comply with the HSE guidelines on physical distancing.
