Councillor Thomas Walsh

  • Sligo County Councillor Thomas Walsh has been added to the Fine Gael General Election ticket in the Sligo-Leitrim, North Roscommon, South Donegal constituency.

Councillor Walsh, from Ballygawley in Sligo, was added to the ticket  at a meeting of the FG Executive Council last night.

It's the first time the 34 year old will contest a General Election, and he joins Senator Frank Feighan on the FG ticket.

Thomas Walsh was elected to Sligo County Council last May, having previously worked as a Dáil parliamentary assistant and Ministerial aide to former FG deputy John Perry.

  • We need to listen to the clear advice being provided by our public health experts and not keyboard warriors in the present coronavirus outbreak. That’s the view of Sligo Fine Gael Councillor Thomas Walsh who has hit out at what he terms “irresponsible commentary on social media”.

Retail Ireland, which represents large retailers here, state that all supply chains are operating as normal and have assured consumers there is no need to stockpile foods or other products. So, the councillor asks why are people loosing the run of themselves for no reason, stocking trolleys of the same items? And then why are people posting videos and photos of empty shelves and queues in supermarkets?

The councillor insists we can help stop the spread of Covid-19. We need to help our public health teams, our front line medical teams, our tracing teams, our carers, service providers and our elderly.

He told Midwest News that we need to listen to advice from our public health experts and not keyboard warriors.
