Castlebar Housing Estate

The June meeting of Castlebar Municipal District is set to be held in the green area of a housing estate in the county town, in an effort to address the frustration of residents and councillors trying to get action on anti social behaviour by a family in the estate.

The idea was proposed by Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne and was unanimously supported at the monthly meeting of the authority earlier this week.

The family in question has been housed by Mayo County Council in the estate, and the local authority owns the house. Shouting, loud music and drinking continuously emanates from the house, spilling out into the neighbourhood, and despite the gardai being called on numerous occasions and Mayo County Council advising the residents to change their behaviour, the problem continues.

Councillors are demanding that Mayo County Council as the landlord in this case, take appropriate action and end the nightmare for many elderly residents and families,  in this Castlebar housing estate.

Cllr Kilcoyne has been telling Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley why Mayo County Council must address the anti social behaviour of its tenants in this case...
