• Six people were rescued from a cruise boat which suffered engine failure near Ballinasloe in Co Galway yesterday evening.

The Ballinasloe Civil Defence boat crew was tasked by the Irish Coast Guard at about 4pm yesterday.

A rescue boat with three crew on board responded, and when they arrived at the scene at Moycarn Marina on the River Suck, they found six people on board a river cruiser that had blown onto the river bank.

No-one sustained injuries in the incident, and the cruiser was towed back to the safety of Ballinasloe Marina.
