  • We awoke to the very sad news on Tuesday the 17th of April, that the great Tom McBride, or Big Tom as he was known to his legions of fans and admirers across Ireland, the United Kingdom, Europe, and indeed the whole world. 

    On the #MidMorningShow with Paul and Gerry this morning they looked back on the life and times of the man himself with contributions from one of his oldest friends, Margo, Ryan Tubridy and our own Michael Commins who had known the McBrides for over thirty years.   • The funeral takes place in County Monaghan this morning of country music legend Big Tom.

    The 81 year old 'King of Country' died on Tuesday morning.

    Thousands of fans and friends gathered in his native Oram on Wednesday to say their goodbyes.

    Mr McBride's funeral Mass gets underway at 11am this morning in St Patrick's Church, Oram, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

    The Mass is expected to be attended by musicians, singers, friends and fans of Big Tom’s from all over the country.

  • The death has taken place of country music legend Big Tom.

    The 81-year old from Castleblaney, Co Monaghan passed away this morning in hospital surrounded by family members.

    Big Tom McBride started out in the music business in 1966, fronting Big Tom and the Mainliners and was known as Ireland’s King of Country Music.

    In June 2016, he was the first artist to be inducted into the Irish Country Music Hall of Fame.

    His family have just confirmed that he passed away this morning, and say he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.



  • The family of late country music legend Big Tom McBride are devastated by a weekend death in his extended family.

    Rita Bogdanova, the partner of Dermot McBride, one of Big Tom's sons, died suddenly of health complications after giving birth to a baby girl.

    The infant survived the birth and is doing well, according to family sources.

    It's been a difficult 12 months for the Co. Monaghan based McBrides following the death of Big Tom in April at the age of 81.

    He was prececeased by his wife, Rose, some months earlier.

    Dermot and Rita have two other children.

    The McBride family, who reside at Oram, Castleblayney,   have appealed for privacy in the wake of the sudden death.

    No funeral arrangements have yet been announced.

    As a result of the sudden death, the launch of the book, 'Big Tom: The King of Irish Country' at Bridge Street Lounge, Castlebar, on Wednesday has been put back to a later date.

    The book was written by journalist and broadcaster Tom Gilmore, and was due to have been launched by broadcaster Michael Commins.
