  • Mayo cyclist Ben Walsh is making his European stage race pro debut today as part of the EvoPro Racing line-up for Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana (2.Pro).

    The Irish Continental team will be part of a peloton that includes WorldTour squads such as Movistar, Lotto-Soudal, Groupama-FDJ and Cofidis.

    There are also top ProConti teams in the field including Arkéa Samsic.

    Walsh (21) from Westport was a top level junior and after a bad crash at the National Road Championships in 2019 he is on the way back.

  • Westport native Ben Walsh took home a bronze medal for the U23 level at the Cycling Ireland Road Race National Championships yesterday. Walsh, a member of the Evo Pro cycling team, finished his race with a time of 3.45.44 and was 14th overall on the Senior and U23 Mens Race, finishing as the third-highest U23 racer.

    Also competing from the Westport based Covey Wheelers Cycling Club was Richard Meaney, who finished in the Senior and U23 Men’s Race with a time of 3.47.41. Aaron Doherty meanwhile, finished with a time of 3.48.46.

    Keith Mulroy finished in eighth place in the Junior Men’s race with a time of 2.38.43, in a tight affair that saw him just one second off a podium finish.

    Meanwhile, Maeve Gallagher from Castlebar Cycling Club is competing at the women’s elite road race in Limerick today.
