  • The very popular Arts Centre in Ballina, located on Barrett Street in the town, is struggling financially and has appealed to both Ballina Municipal District and Mayo County Council to increase its annual funding to the facility.

The Arts centre also receives 50,000 annually from the Arts Council for its wide range of activities.

Sean Walsh is the Director of Ballina Arts Centre and he told a meeting of Ballina Municipal district this week that the Centre is “financially unstable” and appealed for additional public monies to ensure the facility’s future.

Addressing Ballina councillors he also said that at this stage, it is necessary to go back to businesses in the Ballina Municipal area who were very generous when the Centre was established, to seek sponsorship /funding.
