Mayo & District Motorsport Club have announced an additional Loose Surface Autocross for the 2019 season. Due to the success of last year’s autocross championship which took place between May and September, Mayo Motorsport Club are adding a fifth event to the autocross calendar for 2019 which will take place on Sunday 10th March. There will be no stages rally this year as the club is taking a year out and while the decision not to run in 2019 was not an easy one for the organisers, the addition of a new autocross event will bring its own exciting challenges. This year the season starts in March rather than May and with five rounds in the ‘Frank Harrington Challenge’ and ‘Mayo & District Young Driver Championship’ it is going to be an interesting year.
Mayo & District Motorsport Club rounded off a successful 2018 with an awards night in the Gateway Hotel in December. The winner of the ‘Frank Harrington Challenge’ for 2018 was Derek Mackarel, second place went to Michael Tynan and Andrew Mackarel was third. Patrick McEveney jnr had a great season taking the title of ‘Mayo Motorsport Club Young Driver 2018’ in addition to the Mayo Motorsport Club Award, James McGreal was runner up for the club award with Steven Cafferty taking third. Other award winners on the night were Shane Kilcoyne - ‘Mayo Motorsport Club Marshall of the Year’ and Trevor O’Connell – ‘Club Person of the Year’. The club would like to thank all those who supported and sponsored during 2018.
Mayo Motorsport Club Autocross events will take place in Harrington’s Quarry, The Valley, Swinford on the following Sundays - 10th March; 12th May; 9th June; 21st July and 8th September. For more information please see www.mayomotorsportclub.com
