The Mayo Ladies Football saga took another twist last night.
The Connacht Council have allowed Carnacon to remain in the Mayo Football Championship following an appeal which was heard at last night's Connacht Council meeting.
The Mayo Ladies County Board had sought to have the club removed from the Championship on the grounds that they brought the game into disrepute, after the Carnacon club withdrew eight players from the Mayo county team, due to apparent player welfare issues.
The club has been fined €500 and its eight county players have each been handed a four-week suspension.
It follows a day of claims and counter-claims by the 12 players who walked away from the senior county panel, and the Mayo L-G-F-A who are continuing to back manager Peter Leahy.
