Mayo star Tom Parsons underwent surgery on his knee on Saturday following the serious injury he sustained during his side's Connacht SFC quarter-final defeat to Galway at MacHale Park.

The midfielder was stretchered off in the second-half, where he suffered a dislocated knee and also bad ligament damage in the clash.

Parsons was told he suffered one of the most rare injuries in sport.

His first operation was on his ligaments and he will have to undergo further surgeries in the future.
