Mayo's Cormac Hanley and the 12-year-old Irish Sport Horse stallion Captain Caruso scored a superb win in yesterday's (Thursday) 1m45 $10,000 Hermès Under 25 Welcome class at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida, USA. Last week Cormac and his wonderful Irish Sport Horse triumphed in the 1.40 Meter Opening Speed and in a 1.45 Meter Jump Off competition at the International Equestrian Event so last nights’ win is the third from 3 Starts for the Mayo Combination.
Last night Hanley finished three tenths of a second ahead of American runner-up Sydney Shulman and Villamoura.
Cormac Hanley was also awarded with the Champion Equine Insurance Jumper Style Award from the 54 Starters in the Event.
Captain Caruso is an Irish Sport Horse bred by Charles Hanley. He is by Captain Clover which was also bred by Hanley in Claremorris. Captain Clover was sold to Gabriel Slattery, Irishtown where he was campaigned as a showjumper and has proved very influential to Irish Horse Breeding. Captain Caruso is certainly carrying on the tradition.
