There was a grand turnout at Mayo AC's End of Season Party held in the Dalton Inn, Claremorris on Saturday night. They were there to celebrate another successful year and to make presentations to medal winning individuals and teams.
In addition, there were presentations to the 2017 Vodafone C&C Cellular Club League prize winners. Padraic and Angela McVann were the overall winners of the men’s and women’s 2017 competition respectively.They’ve both been consistent and dedicated league contenders since its inception Angela retained the title she won last year – a remarkable achievement of commitment and performance, Padraic won the o40 category last year and went one step further in 2017.Congratulations to both.
They also celebrated the successes and achievements at numerous National, Provincial, and International 2017 medal winners on road, track and cross country. These included the National 10k, half marathon and marathon, and the club's Derry quartet were there to show off their International Cross Country medals won a couple of weeks ago. Mary Murphy received her F65 marathon bronze – the only Mayo runner to win a national marathon medal this year.
Fifteen Mayo AC members as individuals and in teams won a total of 62 National/International medals in 2017 – 48 on road and track and 14 over cross country - making them te the most successful adult athletics club in the county again this year.
Well done to Trisha Carty, PJ Hall, Maria Kneafsey and JohnTimothy who organised the event, including the traditional raffle and thanks too to the Dalton Inn, Claremorris for the party food and facilities.
