Castlebar Councillors Want Advertising Signs Along the Road Regulated

Councillors in Castlebar Municipal District have called for the introduction of by-laws to regulate the erection of temporary advertising signs around the region.
At the October monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne condemned as “a safety hazard”, the plethora of signs that were erected around the roundabout on the N5 in Castlebar ahead of Mayo’s All Ireland bids, by both the Men and Ladies last month.
He insists that such signs should be banned from roundabouts but in addition called for regulations to be introduced so that there would be consistency for anyone who wants to erect a stand- alone sign on a temporary basis to advertise an event.
All councillors present agreed that by-laws are required.
Councillor Kilcoyne told Midwest News today that it has to be a level playing field for all, but that as it stands some people’s signs are left up for weeks by the local authority, while others are removed after a few days.
