Relief as 5 Tenants of a Voluntary Housing Agency in Claremorris Look Set to Gain Access to their Homes

After a 3 and a half year dispute between a voluntary housing agency and Mayo county council, 5 residents of a housing estate in Claremorris look set to finally gain access to their homes.
That was confirmed yesterday by the Cathaoirleach of Mayo county Council Richard Finn at the monthly meeting of Claremorris Municipal District.
There are 38 housing units in the Mayfield Lake Sheltered Housing Estate in Claremorris, 26 of the units are owned by Mayo county council, and the rest by the voluntary housing agency.
In the case of 5 tenants the voluntary housing agency was not prepared to accept the rent rate paid by Mayo county council and so the tenants were denied access to the units for more than three years now.
The matter ended up in arbitration, and Cathaoirleach Finn told yesterday’s meeting that the tenants should now be in their homes very shortly.
