Body discovered on Inis Meain is that of man who fell into the sea in Co Clare last month

Gardai have confirmed that a body, discovered on the shoreline of the one of the Aran Islands last weekend, is that of a man who fell into the sea in Clare two weeks ago.

45-year old Andrey Maltsev – who had been living and working in Limerick – was shore angling with a friend when he fell off rocks at Doonbeg in Co Clare on 16th September.

His fishing line became entangled on rocks and he lost his footing while trying to free it.

His body was washed up on the shoreline at Inis Meain – about 40 km north of where he fell into the sea.

A post mortem examination was carried out at University Hospital Galway, and following tests, the man’s identity has now been confirmed.
