Gardai have confirmed that a body, discovered on the shoreline of the one of the Aran Islands last weekend, is that of a man who fell into the sea in Clare two weeks ago.

45-year old Andrey Maltsev – who had been living and working in Limerick – was shore angling with a friend when he fell off rocks at Doonbeg in Co Clare on 16^th September.

His fishing line became entangled on rocks and he lost his footing while trying to free it.

His body was washed up on the shoreline at Inis Meain – about 40 km north of where he fell into the sea.

A post mortem examination was carried out at University Hospital Galway, and following tests, the man’s identity has now been confirmed.
