It’s hoped the second phase of the CCTV system in Westport town centre will be up and running by October.
Phase one of the system has been in operation for the past two years, while phase 2 will see 12 more cameras in a number of locations throughout the town centre.
Phase two of the CCTV system will cost in the region of 37,000 euro, and there’s currently a shortfall of some 20,000 euro.
Westport-based Independent Councillor Christy Hyland has now pledged to donate his entire GMA allocation for the coming year to the CCTV project which he has supported since he was first elected to Westport Town Council.
Each councillor in the West Municipal District was allocated 20,000 euro in this year’s budget to spend on community initiatives, and Councillor Hyland is committing his allocation to the CCTV system, which he says he hopes to see completed later this year, and which he believes will make Westport a safer town for locals and visitors…
