Ceilí protest taking place today at NUI Galway

A protest with a difference is taking place this afternoon at NUI Galway, over the decision to drop the requirement for the University’s President to be fluent in Irish.

Misneach na Gaillimhe is holding a céilí protest at the NUIG Quadrangle from 2 o’clock this afternoon, in conjunction with the university’s Trad society.

Late last year, NUI Galway’s governing authority changed the criteria for recruiting a new college President, as a majority of the members believe that the requirement to be fluent in the Irish language was restricting the potential number of candidates applying for the position.

However, the Misneach na Gaillimhe group is unhappy with the decision.
