The new US Ambassador to Ireland is set to be sworn into office today.

Edward Crawford, a former Cleveland Mayo Society Person of the Year, was appointed to the position earlier this month, with the post vacant since Barack Obama's presidency ended.

The 81 year old’s parents were from Ireland and travelled to the United States in the 1920s.

After being sworn into office by US Vice President Mike Pence, he will formally take up the role.
