Hospital support staff will go ahead with their planned strike this Wednesday, after talks concluded this evening at the Workplace Relations Commission without an agreement.

10,000 support staff, who are members of SIPTU, will take part in a 24-hour strike from 8am on Wednesday morning in a dispute over pay.

SIPTU had already deferred two days of strike action - planned for last Thursday and tomorrow - to allow talks to continue, but say too many issues remain unresolved.

Wednesday's strike action will impact on the Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon and Galway University Hospitals, as well as Merlin Park and Portiuncla Hospitals.
