Gardai are appealing to road users to take extra care when using the roads this Bank Holiday weekend.
Gardai say there will be an increase in the number of people using the roads with various events taking place and the start of the school holidays for secondary school students.
A Bank Holiday Enforcement Campaign will be in place, with Garda resources deployed with the aim of increasing compliance among road users and improving overall road safety.
There will again be particular emphasis on inappropriate speed, drink/drug driving, seatbelts and faulty tyres.
Noel Kelly is the Regional Roads Policing Superintendent and has been telling Angelina Nugent that there will be additional checkpoints in operation this weekend.
