The final three seats in the Midlands Northwest European constituency were filled last night in the Royal Theatre in Castlebar.
Sitting Independent MEP Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan was elected following the 13th count, after surpassing the quota with 121,824 votes.
Returning Officer Fintan Murphy declared Fine Gael’s Maria Walsh from Shrule and sitting MEP Matt Carthy of Sinn Fein elected also, without reaching the quota on that 13th count – with 107,198 votes and 98,732 votes respectively.
Those three join Fine Gael's Mairead McGuinness who was returned following the first count on Monday afternoon.
Independent Peter Casey, who told Midwest News yesterday that he intends to stand in the next General Election, finished in fifth place overall with 78.632 votes.
