There was no one on duty at Castlebar railway station at 10am this morning when a woman confined to a wheelchair arrived to board the train.

That’s according to Castlebar Independent candidate in the local elections, Aidan Crowley.

The woman in the wheelchair is his sister in law and Mr Crowley explained that his wife sought the assistance of another passenger at the station to put a ramp in place, to allow her sister, a regular train user, to board the train for a medical appointment in Dublin.

Aidan told Midwest News that the situation for passengers with mobility issues at the railway station is simply unacceptable.
