Three out of four overseas visitors who travel to this country through Ireland West Airport Knock stay in Co Mayo as part of their holiday, spending an average of 5 nights in Mayo.

They're among the findings of a new study by RedC Research, which highlights the critical role the airport plays in delivering visitors to the seven counties in the West and Northwest who are now shareholders in the airport.

The study also shows a 3% increase in passenger numbers at the airport last year, to a record high of 771,619.

Donal Healy, Head of Marketing at Ireland West Airport Knock, told Midwest News that the study highlights the significant benefit the airport is bringing to the entire region - and in particular, the spin off for the Mayo economy.
