And as we come into another Bank Holiday weekend, gardai are advising road users that the garda presence on the roads across the region will be greater than ever, with additional checkpoints both day and night time.

Motorists are advised that inappropriate speed, driving with a mobile phone in use, drink driving or failing to wear a seatbelt are all motoring offenses.

Regional Roads Superintendent of the Western region Noel Kelly told Midwest News that gardai want everyone to enjoy their long weekend, but he says many motorists are failing to get the message that you cannot drink and drive, travel over the speed limit, or text read text messages while driving.
