The Minister for Community & Rural Development Michael Ring has officially opened the €13 million extension and refurbishment of the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar this morning.

Government funding was allocated for the project during Enda Kenny's term as Taoiseach, after HIQA insisted that the facility be extensively improved to meet the standards neccessary for community nursing home facilities.

The Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar now offer 70 private bedrooms, as well as services including physiotherapy, rehab and day care.
