A new 4 strong community garda unit has been set up, and is now operational in Ballina.
Details of the new unit were outlined to the community at a meeting earlier this week, attended by the gardai and members of the various housing estates in the town and local groups.
Willie Nolan, an independent candidate in the Ballina Municipal District i the upcoming local elections was in attendance. Willie has served on the Joint Policing Committee in Mayo for some years, and he says this new unit will strengthen policing in the town.
Speaking to Midwest News today Willie described the initiative, as returning to the “feet on the street”/ garda presence of previous years, and he says he is confident that it will be effective.
