The ballots are set for May's European elections.

Almost 60 candidates are running for 13 seats in the European Parliament.

The vast constituency of Midlands-North West, which stretches from Donegal to Kildare, will be contested by 17 candidates.

The sitting MEPs who are running again are Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan (Ind), Mairéad McGuinness (FG) and Matt Carthy (SF).

Candidates have until 12 noon tomorrow to withdraw which is a rare occurrence as the last time that happened in this constituency was 22 years ago.
