A Roscommon TD is calling for interim safety measures to be put in place on stretches of the N5, following another serious collision in Tulsk last week.

The issue was raised in the Dail by Fianna Fail TD Eugene Murphy, who says people along living in towns and villages along the N5 are facing ongoing dangers.

While a by-pass from Ballaghadereen to Scramogue Cross is being progressed, Deputy Murphy says we cannot wait for the new by-pass, and interim safety measures must be put in place to avoid further collisions - such as electronic speed signs.

Given that the by-pass will not be in place for several years, Deputy Murphy is asking Transport Infrastructure Ireland to carry out an assessment of the N5 to see what measures could be put in place to avoid further serious accidents.
