A number of business in Charlestown have been hit with a 50 percent drop in sales over the past two months as Irish Water is carrying out extensive works in the town. That’s according to Sinn Fein councillor Gerry Murray.
The councillor raised his concerns about the impact on local trade, and disruption to traffic, during the works that are due to be completed shortly. He called for better planning and management by Mayo County Council as it intends to carry out two further contracts in the town over the next number of months.
He raised his concerns at the monthly meeting of Claremorris Municipal District and spoke to Midwest News about his concerns for local businnesses, as two further large contracts are to be undertaken in Charrlestown before the end of this year.
