The price of an average 3-bed semi-detached house in Co Mayo rose by almost 5% in the past year to €160,000.

That's according to the REA Average House Price survey published today, which shows that Mayo house prices were static in the first three months of this year.

In Castlebar, a three-bed semi is currently averaging €160,000 while a similar house in Westport is achieving €252,000.

Local estate agents are reporting a steady market with strong demand for family homes and good quality properties located close to Westport town.

Roscommon house prices have increased by almost 10% in the past year, and by almost 11% in Sligo, while in Galway city, there was a 6.6% increase over the past 12 months, and a 6.7% increase in Co Galway.

Over the past year, the highest increase in house prices was in Longford, where a 3-bed semi increased by over 21% to an average of €115,000.

Estate agents say this is due to the upcoming opening of the Centre Parcs tourist attraction.
