A new Bill which would allow voting on offshore islands to take place the same day as the mainland has taken a step forward.
That's according to Galway West Fianna Fail TD Eamon O'Cuiv who introduced the Bill to the Dail.
Minister of State for Local Government & Electoral Reform John Paul Phelan has confirmed that the Bill will be moved by March 29th.
Deputy O'Cuiv says he sees no reason why the Bill couldn't pass all stages of the Oireachtas in time for the local and European elections in May.
He believes it's unfair that islanders go to the polls a day or two earlier than voters on the mainland, and says there's no longer any reason for this, given the improved transport services.
