A man jailed for strangling a Glenamaddy factory worker to death almost eight years ago has lost an appeal against his conviction for murder.

33-year old Latvian national Andrejs Krauze of Dudley Heights, Glenamaddy, Co Galway had pleaded not guilty to murdering his fellow countryman, 30-year old Juris Buls in July 2011.

He was convicted after a three week trial in March 2017 and was jailed for life.

The three-judge Court of Appeal yesterday rejected Mr Krauze's challenge to the fairness of the trial and safety of the verdict, and dismissed the appeal.
