Fianna Fáil members have selected sitting TD Brendan Smith to represent the Party in the Midlands North West Constituency for the upcoming election to the European Parliament. Following a competitive campaign, with nine candidates initially in the race, delegates chose Deputy Smith at a convention in the Longford Arms Hotel in Longford Town.
Deputy Smith has represented the party in County Cavan at both a local and national level and now looks forward to the challenge of regaining a seat for Fianna Fáil in the Midlands North West in May. Deputy Smith is steeped in a Fianna Fáil tradition and has served as a Fianna Fáil TD for the Cavan-Monaghan Constituency since 1992. He has also served as a cabinet Minister.
