Gardai nationally have issued a reminder to parents to closely monitor the games their children may be playing online.
It follows reports that the dangerous 'momo challenge' is circulating via WhatsApp.
Gardai in a number of regions have posted online warnings to ensure parents are fully aware of the matter. They have described the 'game' as a form of cyberbullying.
“The momo challenge is a form of cyberbullying where momo asks to be contacted through a social media site and then asks the person to perform a series of dangerous tasks including self-harm”.
Gardai are advising that there is a disturbing image of momo online that parents should make themselves familiar with, and appeal to parents to supervise children or those that are vulnerable while online.
