An Post is being criticised for putting up their new logo and signage at a Co Sligo Post Office which is due to close next week.
Gurteen Post Office is to close on the last day of February - despite a strong local campaign for its retention.
The Save Gurteen Post Office Action Group has repeatedly stressed that the population of the village is 512 - while An Post CEO David McRedmond gave a commitment last year that no location with a population over 500 would lose its post office.
Committee members were amazed this week to see the old An Post sign being removed from Gurteen Post Office, which was then replaced with a new sign - despite the premises closing next week.
An Post has responded to a query from Midwest Radio on the matter - by saying that post offices all over the country are currently being provided with An Post's new logo and signage, and Gurteen - as a working post office- was fitted with the new signage earlier this week along with other Sligo post offices.
