Gardai in Westport are warning of phone scams being reported in the past number of days again.

One particular man reported getting a call from a person purporting to be from Eircom. They alleged the homeowner’s internet was slow and they wanted to gain access to their laptop to carry out upgrade work. They asked the man to download an app called –TeamViewer and to give him their access code, which the man did.

Through the app the caller gained access to the laptop. They also gave the man a case number, officers name and batch ID, as well as a Dublin number to contact.

When Gardai contacted the number - 01-4428620 – a caller answered and claimed to be from the National Crime Agency.

Gardai are warning people to never give out any of their details over the phone in this manner, as these companies will not ask for details like this over the phone.
