Claremorris Municipal District councillors have agreed to ban election posters across the district for the May local elections.

The motion was proposed by Ballyhaunis based Fine Gael councillor John Cribben at the monthly meeting of Claremorris Municipal District, and it was unanimously supported.

Yet despite the support, the banning of election posters in the district is a voluntary issue and is not legally binding.

Councillir Cribben made a strong argument for banning posters equating them with the litter concerns in the area, and while other councillors supported his stance, nonetheless, some added that if anyone breaks the voluntary agreement - then its” gloves off “, so to speak.

Nonetheless, Cllr Cribben told Midwest News  that he is pleased that the motion has been unanimously carried.
