A Mayo Senator says she witnessed a taxi man in Castlebar at 5pm on a Friday evening, recently, being assaulted in his car as a number of passengers embarked from his vehicle and proceeded to kick it.

Erris based Senator Rose Conway-Walsh says she is appalled and angered by the levels of crime generally being experienced in regional towns and villages.    

She has asked for a full debate in the Seanad with Minister Flanagan on the issue of regional crime, particularly in light this week, of an elderly women in the south of the country, being duped by a rogue trader into handing over money for power tools she did not want or need.

 As someone who lives in rural Ireland Senator Conway Walsh told Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley that she is appalled and angered by the rising levels of crime.
