Mayo County Council is to carry out safety improvement works in the coming weeks at Scoil Phadraig in Westport.
The news was confirmed today to Westport-based Fianna Fail Councillor Brendan Mulroy.
The new school building on the Newport Road in Westport was officially opened in 2017, following the amalgamation of the girls' convent school and CBS boys primary school.
However, Councillor Mulroy has previously raised concerns about safety for students, as a result of motorists parking on pavements.
Speaking with Midwest News, Councillor Mulroy said barriers will be installed, preventing cars from mounting the pavements, which will make it safer for children entering and exiting the school.
