A presentation plaque on behalf of Mayo Scouts was presented  this week to members of Castlebar Municipal District for the contribution of the local authority to the scouts across county Mayo.

The presentation was made by the County Commissioner for Scouts in Mayo Rene Nolan at the monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District.

Today (Sat) Minister Michael Ring will officially turn the sod at the site of the new Castlebar Scout Den, close to the Harlequinn hotel in the county town, on land donated by Mayo county council. The new development has received funding of 300,000 euro from the Leader programme.

Castlebar Scouts are currently accommodated in council property at Lough Lannagh.

Mayo Scouts are still celebrating the achievement of Ballina based Benny Walkin who received the Scout’s highest award just before Christmas for 50 years of outstanding service to the organisation.
